Recovery Time of Lasik Surgery
There are limitations on what a person can do after any surgery, and Lasik surgery is no different. There is another protocol after the operation that must be followed if recovery is to be speedy and painless.
There may be some discomfort or dryness of the eye after the numbing drops wear off, but this will be minimal and quickly go away. Antibiotics may be prescribed to prevent infection, and your doctor may also prescribe anti-inflammatory medication to ease any swelling that may arise. Eye drops may also be given to keep the eyes moist and comfortable.
There are time limitations as to what activities you can perform after surgery. For 8 weeks following the operation, you should not swim, be in a hot tub, or whirlpool. The water that may enter your eyes can do damage and irritate them. For 4 weeks, it is necessary to wear an eye shield at night. When you sleep, you may rub your eyes or roll over on them, causing irritation and harming the healing process. For the same period of time, it is unwise to engage in any strenuous or contact sports. While damage to the eye is possible at all times when engaging in these activities, the risk of damage is heightened when you are recovering from surgery. No non-contact sports or non-routine physical activity should be undertaken for three days following surgery. They eye is extremely susceptible in this time.
